A man died in a massive blast at an ordnance factory near Nagpur this morning. The blast occurred in the LTP section of the factory around 10.30 am in Maharashtra's Bhandara district, said District Collector Sanjay Kolte. Firefighters and medical staff were at the scene to contain the situation.
The blast led to the roof collapse, trapping 14 workers who were in the LTP section of the factory in the Jawahar Nagar area. In the initial efforts, three were rescued alive and one was dead. An excavator was used to remove the debris, said the senior official.
The blast was of such an intensity that it was heard from 5 km away. A thick smoke was seen rising from the factory in a video captured from a distance.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the casualty in the factory blast and said five workers have been evacuated. He said top officials are at the blast site and rescue teams from Nagpur will reach soon. Medical teams are also ready to help if needed, he assured.
"Unfortunately, one worker has died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tributes to him. We share the grief of his family. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured," said the Chief Minister.
